179. June 2021 to Sept 2021: The Marvel Universe.... and lessons that come along...
The months of the various Movement Control Orders and National Recovery Plans continue to pass... I spent every night with the older kids, about an hour a night, watching the whole Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movies starting from Ironman 1 all the way to Avengers: Endgame, and then going into WandaVision, then... taking a break from the Avengers, going through the X-Men movies, and at the time of writing this, we just concluded X-Men: The Days of Futures Past...
(A glimpse of how me and my kids bonded over a popular Intellectual Property, the MCU, and discussed various themes of life...)
Themes discussed with my kids over the 20-30 movies:
Teamwork
Loyalty
Recognising the strengths within you
Cravings for power
Perspectives of success
Priorities and purposes in life
Selfishness
Reliance on a higher power
and so much more....
Lessons for myself:
Listen to the kids carefully: they have different perspectives, and those can be very penetrating and reveal much about the world, themselves and ourselves
Dump all my pride aside: the kids can teach me much
Be grateful for the time spent together: every such day occurs only once, squeeze as much out of the days as you can
Be patient: Rome is not built in a day, and neither should the kids; mould them with our values, but do so gradually and lovingly... we are helping God in His design of pieces of art, not mounds of hardened clay
Kneel to their level: we need to be humbled at the honour placed on us to raise them... and when kneeling, we look at what they see, and we will be humbled by how small we are (we are not as great as we think)
Stand up and tower over them: and feel our love for our kids, and we may then have a glimpse of how the Lord above loves us, his children....
So much to learn, so slow down and learn, don't rush through life....
