58. Public Speaking Intermediate: 6. Module 5: Motivating Others

Now, in the office space, there will be times when you will be required to motivate others, especially if you lead a team or manage a work group or if you are a head of department.

How do you do that?

What can you say that can lift up the spirit of others?

One of the things you can do that will impact others positively is to do good uplifting things in public.

If you share words of appreciation, do it in public.

If you give little tokens of appreciation, do it in public.

If you want to thank a team, do team lunches, go for team building, organise team events.

At all the events / programs above, find every opportunity to speak.

Before you speak however, there is some homework you need to do first.

  1. What is purpose of occasion

  2. Who is getting something

  3. Why? What was contribution

  4. Thank everyone, commend recipient

  5. Encourage the rest to do their best, stand out, be different

By doing the above, you not only motivate the recipient of the award, you motivate the rest of the team as well.

At these times, it is good not to single out one and miss the rest. Remember, the whole team needs motivation.
