115. Training a Trainer (Learnings): 11. Delivery - Not too much!

Today we continue looking at my learnings from my Train the Trainer session a few months ago. I started talking about various aspects of training delivery last week. This week, my focus is on “not too much” information.

How much is too much?

Trainers sometimes feel the need to data dump all that they know unto their participants. I sometimes have the tendency to do that too.

Why?

Sometimes it can be because of lack of time and opportunity.

As a trainer, have you had the feeling that “I may not get to meet this group of participants again anytime soon”, and to ensure they get the most out of the session, we should give them EVERYTHING we know?

Stop. Don’t give in to that temptation!

Nowadays with technology, there is no reason why they cannot get the information themselves. What your participants need is your skill in dissecting just the right amount of learning for them. Not dump all sorts of information on them.

So if you have done your homework, just give them what they need to process the information. They would most likely prefer that.

Remember, don’t just share everything. Share enough.
