118. My Journey so far as an STM TEE student… 1. Intro: Why I started …

It was the end of 2017…. I was reflecting on my personal growth in my faith life, and I was wondering, "Where do I go from here?"

I recently got awarded the license to be a Lay Preacher in the Lutheran Church in Malaysia (LCM) for an initial period of 2 years. I thank God for the opportunity to serve in this way.

This was possible with the help of my own pastors, Rev Dr Sivin Kit and Rev Augustin Muthusami, whom not only encouraged my learning over the years, but gave a budding preacher the space and opportunity to preach at their congregations.

Their constructive feedback over the years have also contributed to my preparations for this role.

I then realised that my journey has officially just begun.

In the banking industry, those of us having certifications have to ensure the currentness of our certifications by taking classes to fulfil CPD hours (Continuous Professional Development).

I realise that it is the same for me here. Being qualified as a Lay Preacher does not mean my personal education ends, it has to continue.

Tada! An invitation by my then pastor to join the Theological Education by Extension (TEE) course under Seminari Theoloji Malaysia (STM) came to mind. This will be my answer!

A part time course to ensure my theological understanding, Bible knowledge, and other relevant skills continue to be developed over time.

I

immediately signed myself up for the Masters in Christian Ministry course… and thus began my journey….
