144. The Benefits of Reading: 1. Gaining Specialised Knowledge

Happy New Year everyone!

As we move into a new year, I would like to start the year by sharing some of the benefits I found while engaging in the process / activity of reading.

I have enjoyed reading as a hobby and passion since I was very young. Don't know about you, but I have always found reading a very fulfilling pastime. As I grew, reading became more widespread as I had to not only read for school, I had to then read for work, read for church, read for my children, and so many more purposes.

But what do we get from reading?

Here are some benefits... I will share over the course of this quarter.

The first benefit I will highlight today is the gaining of specific specialised knowledge into things we need to do. If you have followed my blog you would have known that I have been engaged in part time, adhoc preaching as a lay person in my church, Bangsar Lutheran Church (BLC) and the denomination, Lutheran Church in Malaysia (LCM) over the past 8 years or so.

Preaching being a personal area of development for me, I search for and read books that are specific to this area of study.

This is an excellent collection of writings called, "The Art and Craft of Biblical Preaching".

Reading in this way allows one to zoom straight at and delve deep into a specified area where one wants or needs to work on, learn, and improve.

So here we are again, the first benefit of reading....

Stay tuned next week for the 2nd benefit....
